Nigerian comedian Basketmouth says he will be retiring from stand-up comedy in five years.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the comedian said that he has plans to stop comedy at the age of 50. He added that in five years, he would mark 31 years of stand-up comedy.

“Last year, I told myself and my team that I am going to do comedy and after years, I am quitting. I want to start a new journey, experience something new,” Basketmouth said on Monday.

“At the end of five years, that is like 31 years in the game, that is a lot of time, pretty much more than half of my life, so I want to do something else,” he added.

Basketmouth said that prior to making this decision, he slowed down on performing stand-ups for some years.

“What I did was I kept a London show going, so for every February I do a show there, so I don’t get rusty. So, for the past six years I have just been floating,” he noted.

Basketmouth said he wants to explore other interests including, expanding his knowledge of films, TV shows and others.

“I want to be remembered for everything I do,” he added.

Meanwhile, Basketmouth is currently in Ghana for his much anticipated ‘Unprovoked’ show, scheduled for April 8.
