The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it will be opening nominations for the by-election in Kumawu constituency on April 11

A statement issued said “The Party has approved detailed Rules and Regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election which would be made available to stakeholders.

“However, Nomination Forms will be available at the Constituency Party Office for purchase.”

This is after the Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin declared the Kumawu Constituency as vacant.

This followed the demise of Member of Parliament Philip Basoah.

Philip Basoah died on Tuesday, March 28 after a short illness.

He was said to have been in Parliament a week earlier, participating in proceedings of the House.

“This is so tragic. Hon. Basoah you were so active just last week in Parliament,” tweeted colleague MP Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor.

“Very calm & focused yet very active, especially on the Public Accounts Committee where you & I serve. Fare thee well, my brother. My deepest condolences to your family & Constituents. You served well.”

On Friday, March 31, before the legislature proceeded on recess, Speaker Bagbin declared the seat vacant, informing the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on initiating preparations to conduct a bye-election for constituents.
