Former Trade Minister Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of not honouring a promise he made to him during the campaign period.
According to the flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he was promised a ministerial position but that is yet to be fulfilled.
“Some ministries were mentioned to me, but it never came through. Both before and after the New Patriotic Party came to power. Anytime I made calls to check on the promises made to me, I had only excuses,” he said.
According to Dr Apraku, “in 2012, I was in charge of security and then 2016, I was the campaign manager. I worked tirelessly to help the President ascend the throne but when he came to office, I was not given any position in government.”
Dr Apraku mentioned that with his knowledge and background in finance and economics, he would have appreciated being given the position of Finance Minister.
This notwithstanding, Dr Apraku said he has kept his relationship with President Akufo-Addo intact.
“I have kept my friendship with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I always attended to him whenever he came to the ECOWAS, and even picked him up at the airport anytime he was on a visit…The president always asks if I was happy with my position at the ECOWAS.”
Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku believes that he has made a tremendous impact at ECOWAS and never ignored the New Patriotic Party, so delegates and by extension the Ghanaian populace should consider his efforts and vote for him as a flagbearer and President of the country come election 2024 to provide the change Ghana yearns for.
Dr. Apraku spoke during an interview on Joy News on Tuesday, July 11.
The NPP has set Saturday, November 4 as the date to elect a flagbearer for the presidential election in 2024.
According to the political party, since more than five candidates filed to contest the flagbearership, a super delegates congress on August 26 will be used to trim the number down to five.
The party also announced that parliamentary primaries will be held on February 24, 2024 and nominations will be accepted between December 20, 2023 and January 4, 2024.
