The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has shot down claims by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia that the previous government only built two factories during their time in power as opposed to the governing New Patriotic Party’s 150 factories.
In a press release signed by Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, the party noted that not only are the Vice President’s claims, which he made in Kumawu over the weekend, are not only mischievous lies but aimed at deceiving unsuspecting Ghaiaans into believing his lies.
“This claim by the Vice President is a barefaced lie. For the records, the erstwhile NDC/Mahama administration established strategic, high priority State-owned factories that anchored growth in key sectors of the Ghanaian economy,” parts o the statement read.
The NDC named some factories they noted were created under their government including the $1 billion Atuabo Gas processing plant, Elmina Fish processing plant, Buipe Sheanut factory, Komenda sugar factory, and Revamping of the Kumasi shoe factory among others.
The party indicated that rather it is the governing NPP government that has had no factory built in its name since taking over power in 2017.
“We must hasten to point out to the Vice President that if his so-called 150 factories claim relates to government’s poorly-implemented 1D1F program, then he needs to educate himself and cure his own ignorance about the nature of their so-called 1D1F initiative. This is because, none of the said 1D1F factories, was actually built by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.”
“On the contrary, 1D1F projects are purely private sector initiatives which are supported by government/state agencies in one way or the other. While some of the projects under the 1D1F are new projects, most of them are existing companies/factories. What Bawumia must understand is that facilitating and/or supporting a private initiative as has been half-heartedly done by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government under the 1D1F initiative, is not the same as building a factory.”
NDC added that several of the factories under 1D1F which government claims to be operational, have been are either non-existent or non-functional.
The party stated that they will embark on a full-scale expose’ on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP monumental 1D1F which they call a scam.
“On the other hand, if the basis of Bawumia’s claim was about new and/or existing factories whose establishments and operations were facilitated by the government, then he lied, as the facts show that the erstwhile NDC government rolled out a robust plan of public-private partnerships and provided stimulus packages for over a hundred (120) factories operating in various sectors of the economy.”
Vice President Bawumia was in Kumawu Constituency on Friday ahead of the by-elections to rally support for the NPP candidate ahead of the by-elections when he made the claims.
The NDC also denied Dr Bawumia’s claims that “Guinea fowls flew to Burkina Faso under John Mahama.”
“Clearly, the ridiculous claim by Bawumia that Guinea fowls flew to Burkina Faso under the NDC/Mahama government is an outrageous lie that should be coming from a rabid NPP serial caller operating under a drunken stupor, not a Vice President and Head of the Economic Management team whose hopelessness has led to the collapse and bankruptcy of the Ghanaian economy.”
The party called on the Vice President to take Ghanaians seriously following the “disastrous outcome of his hopeless leadership of the management team”.
They noted that he should not be indulging in the nuisance comedy of the sort he displayed on the campaign platform in Kumawu.
