Olympique Khouribga striker Kwame Poku is confident that Morocco has what it takes to host any major tournament in world football.
The Ghanaian moved to Morocco earlier this year during the mid-season transfer window.
In the few months the striker has spent in Morocco, he’s been awed by the sports infrastructure and told 3Sports he believes the country can host any major tournament.
“Football in Morocco is currently very good. You can see it from their facilities and how they’re branding their national team to the clubs. There’s a lot of hard work to ensure that Moroccan football develops”
In terms of infrastructure, Morocco is very well developed. In the other countries I have played some of them use astroturf. Almost all the clubs here have their stadium which has natural pitches. Even the training equipment is really good here.”
Poku since his move has always been surprised by the fan culture in the North African country.
“At first I thought Ghanaian fans were passionate about football till I came to Morocco. Since I moved here, I realised Moroccans love football extremely. At my club Olympique Khouribga, we take long flights to away games to still meet our fans at the stadium. When the national team is playing you can see the support from social media and even on the streets.”
Morocco is competing with neighbours Algeria, South Africa, Zambia, and a Benin-Nigeria for the hosting rights of the 2025 AFCON. They also have a joint bid with Spain and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup.
