In a recent interview, Okyeame Kwame revealed that he disobeyed his parents’ wishes and married Annica instead of following their wishes.
The Ghanaian rapper claimed in an interview with Angel FM that his parents opposed the union because they disagreed with his wife’s Jehovah’s Witness religious beliefs.
Nevertheless, he claimed that they both made the decision to forgo the customary marriage ceremony, which would have inevitably involved both families, and instead went to the court to formally seal their union.
“Our marriage was not approved by my parents. Although we were from Kumasi, we were scheduled to perform in Accra. When we arrived in Nkawkaw, my wife, who worked for a legal business, asked why we couldn’t get married if there were three main kinds of marriage: Mohammedan, customary, and ordinance—I can’t remember the third one.
“So the people who don’t support our marriage, will they come and live with us?” Annica enquired, according to him. Okyeame gave a negative response and added that they immediately proceeded to register their marriage at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
Okyeame Kwame said that the only thing impeding their marriage was religion. Other than that, the families were devoted to one another.
He continued by saying that he told his mother about the union the night before it took place because he realized he was marrying the woman for himself, not for his mother.
“Why would I marry a lady she wants and not what I want, since we won’t live together?” he questioned.
Two wonderful children, Sir Kwame Bota and Sante Nsia-Apau, are the offspring of Okyeame Kwame and Annica.
