Brands communication strategist and lecturer at UniMAC-GIJ Dr. Ike Tandoh has asserted that the minority caucus in parliament and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party are on course to communicate to their members and the public that they are united for 2024 general elections.
He explained that though the boycotting of parliamentary proceedings by the minority caucus to accompany their colleague MP to court is not good for the brand Ghana, it is however demonstrating to the public that the NDC is united for electoral victory.
Dr. Tandoh stated that it is quite interesting that now we have 137 on both sides in Ghana’s parliament and that per the history of the parliamentarians and the house itself what kind of branding is being projected not only to Ghanaians but to the international community in order to solidify Ghana’s democracy?
“NDC wants to position themselves as a united solid front for election 2024” he told Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show.
Minority leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday 4 July 2023 that the minority members of parliament would abandon parliamentary proceedings to accompany their colleague James Gyakye Quayson, MP for Assin North who is facing trial for perjury to the court any time his case is to be heard.
True to the words of the minority leader, the minority caucus on Thursday July 6, 2023, abandoned parliament the work of Parliament to solidarized with the Assin North MP.
“With the narratives, the conversations and how politicise everything about our parliamentary discussions have been, it will be very difficult for us to put our hands up and say yes we are building or communicating a democratic brand of that distinguished house. I am sorry to say the narratives are not good enough for any of us in that space to be able to rise and project that we have come of age, our democracy is solid and backed by a house that is not partisan and do not add politics to everything” Dr. Tandoh said.
