Cuban boxer Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez (12-1, 7 KOs) defeated former junior featherweight world champion Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe (24-3, 15 KOs) in an action-packed night of boxing at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, to capture the vacant WBO featherweight world title.
The 29-year-old Ramirez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, won by unanimous decision with scores of 117-110, 118-109, and 119-108.
Ramirez started off strong, wobbling the Ghanaian with a counter left hand in the opening round, and continued his relentless attack in the following round. The two fighters exchanged bombs in the second round, with Dogboe landing body shots in the fourth. However, Ramirez established control by the sixth round and landed consecutive left hands on Dogboe. From then on, Ramirez’s footwork and feints kept Dogboe at bay, while additional left hands found a home.
In the final round, Ramirez scored a knockdown, though Dogboe disputed the call as a slip. Ramirez’s trainer, Ismael Salas, played a key role in his victory, and Ramirez expressed his admiration for Dogboe, saying “All the respect to a warrior like Isaac Dogboe.” Ramirez also reflected on his journey to becoming a champion, saying, “If it wasn’t for that loss in my pro debut, I would have never ended up with Ismael Salas. Yordenis Ugas never would’ve told me, ‘You have to move to Vegas, you have to change your life,’ and I never would have gotten this team together to be where I am today.”
Dogboe, for his part, said, “Let’s run it back. That’s all I have to say. He’s a great fighter.”
In the co-feature, Joet Gonzalez toppled Jose Enrique Vivas in an action-packed featherweight bout.
