Son of Dr. Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, Ghana’s former Trades Minister, Dr. Koby Spio-Garbrah is currently in the Essikadu Ketan National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary race with the hope of snatching the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after winning the primaries.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show, Dr. Koby Spio-Garbrah indicated that it is about time delegates in the Essikadu Ketan NDC presented a candidate who has the capacity of breaking the 20-year rule of the NPP in the Constituency.
According to him, his unique policies are well crafted to ensure members of the party are constantly resourced.
He adds that one of his pillars is to set up businesses for the party.
“For so many years, our delegates’ welfare has been neglected. My first idea is to ensure the party set up profitable businesses. We need to set up businesses for the party that will be strong to the extent that even if we are in opposition, we are able to keep our members active financially. We shall begin with a private security company to ensure the party is resourced with the proceeds. So my campaign team has dedicated an amount of GH¢ 100,000 as seed capital for the party business. We shall use the profits to cater for the party,” he indicated.
He adds that to ensure his promises are not mere rhetoric, a contract has already been signed with the delegates of the party in the constituency.
According to him, an amount of GH¢200,000 has also been dedicated to be given as loans with little or no interest to traders in the constituency.
“Traders need financial investments and so we have decided to ensure funds are dedicated to them. We shall give them loans that can easily be paid with little or no interest. GH¢ 200,000 seed capital has been dedicated to this course. They will only pay 3 percent interest and that will go to the account of the party to be used as welfare for all the branches,” he added.
He is also promising a scholarship scheme for students in the constituency.
“We are here to break the 20-year NPP rule in the Constituency. I want the delegates to vote for me so that we can achieve this together,” he canvassed.
