According to afrobeats musician Kuami Eugene, comparing the music markets in Ghana and Nigeria isn’t feasible.
In an Ofie Kwanso interview with Jerry Justice, he stated that this comparison is unfeasible because of the stark differences in population between the two nations, which inherently means that Nigeria has a greater number of artists than Ghanaians.
“If half of Nigeria’s population streamed your music, it wouldn’t sound the same as it does in Ghana.” Regardless of our perceptions of our own talent,” he stated.
The “Rock Star” went on to say that it’s not an easy feat for a performer to gain recognition abroad. It requires diligence, tenacity, and skillfully exploiting opportunities.
He is therefore proud to see any Ghanaian go through this obstacle.
“Because it’s not easy, I hold my other colleagues in high regard when we blow.”
He finished, saying, “We need to appreciate artists that blow up from here.”
