Tinubu: No woman, no nation – Septuagenarian President-elect of Nigeria thanks women of his party for victory

President-elect of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has credited his electoral victory to the women of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), in Saturday’s general elections.

Per the official results announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) the septuagenarian polled 8,794,726 votes – 36% of votes counted.

The former Lagos Governor beat his closest rivals Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

In his address to the nation on Wednesday, March 1, he said “…No woman, no nation, they did everything possible – creative dancing, intelligent discussions, programmes of ideologies.”

The outgoing President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Tinubu over his victory.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday morning, President Buhari indicated that his successor is the “best person for the job”.

“I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power.”

He added that the 2023 election has demonstrated the continued relevance of democracy “and capability to deliver for the people it serves”.
