Vice President Dr Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama say they are happy for the peace and unity in Gonja Traditional Kingdom.

The duo made these comments at the new King of Gonja’s outdooring in Damongo in the Savannah Region.

Bikunuto Jewu Soale becomes the 34th Yagbonwura at Nyanget, the ancient capital of Gonja.

Speaking at the ceremony, former President Mahama expressed his pride in being a Gonja and was that his tribesmen peacefully undertook the enskinment process.

He, therefore, appealed to the new Overlord to continue the good works and tradition of Gonjas in Gonjaland and also calls on the government to support the Gonja kingdom for development.

Also, Vice President Dr Bawumia in his address thanked the Gonja kingdom for letting peace prevail.

He added that despite their political differences they remain brothers from the North and must live in peace for the development of northern Ghana.

Dr Bawumia added that in the Yagbonwura’s address government will continue to support the palace of the king and the Gonja kingdom for development.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Overlord, Benkurowura Saaka Mahama from the Buipe traditional area in an address delivered on behalf of the overlord Be-Kunuto-Jewu Soale.

“I thank the vice president and former president John Dramani Mahama for honouring the invitation for the outdooring of the new Overlord.

He added that, the new Overlord is ready to work hard for peace and development in the traditional area.

He, however, urged government to support Gonjaland and also help to resolve the few chieftaincy disputes in the kingdom.
