Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have assured former President John Dramani Mahama of their support in the upcoming internal elections of the NDC to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at Mr Mahama’s campaign launch in Ho on Thursday, March 2, Captain John Kwame Gyabari, the Regional Vice Chairman for Ashanti Region, said all the executives in the region are in support of Mr Mahama’s bid.
“My Chairman is currently not in the country. Your Excellency last week there was an endorsement by the women’s wing in the region, I want to tell you that the women told me to come and tell you that that endorsement was fake and they are all behind you.
“All your opponents are from Ashanti Region and we want to assure you that we are giving you 101 percent of the votes in the Ashanti region, you can go and sleep.”
Former Rector of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Professor Joshua Alabi also highlighted the records of Mr Mahama.
He said the creativity of former President in building a workable Ghana is not based on rhetoric but on a sense of urgency and commitment.
Also speaking at the campaign launch of Mr Mahama Prof Alabi said “Former President Mahama is a proven nation-builder whose creativity is not based on rhetoric as others but on a sense of urgency and commitment.
“He is a competent builder with a strong sense of urgency and direction. He knows how to recreate a workable Ghana that brings value to the people.”
Mr Mahama will be contesting against former Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor, former Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mr Kojo Bonsu and businessman Ernest Kobea.
But Professor Alabi said that given the current situation the country finds itself in terms of economic challenges, the right person to steer the affairs of the country as president is Mr John Dramani Mahama.
“From Member of Parliament to Deputy Minister to Cabinet Minister, Vice President and President, his performance as President gave him the accolade a nation-builder,” Pro Alabi said.
