2023/24 Ghana Premier League: Winner to get over $100k


Ghana Football Association (GFA) have announced a significant increase to the prize money of the Ghana Premier League with the winner of the 2023/24 season set to get over $100,000 in total benefits.

This was revealed on Tuesday at the Eastern Premier Hotel in Koforidua during the launch of the upcoming league season in Ghana.

The previous prize money which stood at GHC 300,000 ($26,320) has been raised to GHC 500,000 ($43,868) representing a significant 67% increase. While all the 18 clubs receive equally an amount of GHC 330,000 for TV rights, 275,000 sponsorship from betPawa, and 50,000 for colts development as promised by the FA at the 29th Ordinary Congress, it would raise the total benefits of the next champion of the Ghana Premier League to GHC 1,1550,000 ($105,000).

In addition to the winner, it was stated that all teams placing from second through tenth would also receive financial recognition, with the first runner-up receiving GHC 200,000 and the second runner-up receiving GHC 100,000.

“To increase the competitiveness of the league, the Ghana Football Association will reward from the first to the 10th place in the 2023/24 betPawa Premier League,” Kurt Okraku, the GFA president explained.

The league is set to kick start on Friday, September 15 as Medeama SC look set to defend the title against the aims of the likes of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak who are hoping to bounce back to prominence as well as Aduana Stars and Bechem United who narrowly missed out last season.

The competition is anticipated to undergo a positive shift in its competitiveness with the return of Heart of Lions and Bofoakwa Tano alongside new entrants Nations FC.
