There’s trouble in paradise as best friends now turned political opponents, John Dumelo and Frederick Nuamah of the Ghana Movie Awards accuse each other of betrayal ahead of the upcoming NDC primaries.

Reacting to several news reports that he gave his blessings to actor and businessman, Fred Nuamah to run for office, former parliamentary candidate for the constituency , John Dumelo denied the claims calling the reports “full of lies” and a “stab in the back.”

He made this revelation when he appeared on United showbiz with MzGee on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

“This is someone who called me two months ago and told me he has heard I am coming back so he will support my bid and now he is saying I gave my blessing. When did I give my blessings to him,” he quizzed.

He also recounted how Fred had attended a surprise birthday party in his honor, only to find out that same night that he had released flyers to contest.

“On my birthday, he came for my surprise party on 3rd February, that same night he released his flyer, after that he sent me a long text message and I told him I never told him I am not coming back,” he revealed

When asked about his reaction to the flyer and announcement of candidacy from Fred’s camp, the award winning actor said he felt betrayed by his best man and did not consider him as a friend anymore despite knowing him for 20 years.

“That is a stab in the back and he will lose the primaries.I know that for a fact. If you speak to people and the delegates they say they want John back so I don’t know why Fred is running,” he said

Fred Nuamah and John Dumelo’s scuffle begun earlier in the week when the former granted Graphic Showbiz an interview accusing the latter of reneging of his promise not to contest in Ayawaso West Wuogon.

“Frankly, it’s late to step down. My brother informed me and a lot of people that he was not going to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency again. He gave me his blessings when I made up my mind to contest,” he said

Dumelo,39, who represented the NDC in the 2020 parliamentary elections after defeating the incumbent parliamentary candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong said Fred’s interview was “full of lies”

John Dumelo in the 2020 election was praised for his tactful campaigning skills that landed him a few figures behind New Patriotic Party’s Lydia Seyram Alhassan for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

“Does he think politics is a joke. Does he think we are joking around. can he stand the NPP? I was able to match up to the ruling party boot for boot in 2020. Can he??,” he told MzGee on the show
