The Minority in Parliament says its announced routes for the Occupy Bank of Ghana protest which has been rescheduled to the12th September 2003 will not change.
In a press statement signed by the Minority Leader in Parliament, and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Esiam Constituency, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority says it has rescheduled its protest, which was originally planned to happen on the Tuesday 5th September, to Tuesday 12th September, 2023. However, the route remains the same.
“The march will commence from the frontage of Parliament House, go through the Osu Cemetery Traffic light, Ministry of Finance, The High Court Complex, Kinbu to Makola, Rawlings Park, Opera Square and finally to the Bank of Ghana where the petition will be received,” the statement outlined.
According to the Minority in Parliament, the Occupy Bank of Ghana Protest is meant to make the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two deputies resign from office due to the loss of $60.8 billion incurred in the year 2022.
The change in date is as a result of the outcome of proceedings in court today, 4th September, 2023.
The court could not rule on the case due to the weight of the preliminary legal objections raised by the lawyers for the Minority in Parliament and requested the indulgence of the Minority to give its ruling on Friday, 8th September, 2023.
“As law abiding citizens, the Minority in Parliament and other civil Society Organizations who wanted to embark on this protest, have decided to respect the judiciary and reschedule the protest to 12th September, 2023 taking into consideration these developments,” the statement explained.
It would be recalled that the Bank of Ghana lost GH$60.8 billion which was recorded in their 2022 annual report. The central bank also commenced the building of a head office at the cost of $250 million when the Public Procurement Authority initially approved an amount of $81 million.
