New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in twin Eastern Region Constituencies of Lower Manya Krobo and Upper Manya Krobo on Monday, August 7 turned up in their numbers at Agomanya and Asesewa to offer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia rousing receptions, and declared strong support for his flagbearership bid.
The warm welcome and declaration would be a source of concern to one of the NPP flagbearership aspirants, Boakye Agyarko, whose backyard is the two constituencies, especially Lower Manya Krobo.
However, in declaring the constituencies’ support for Dr. Bawumia, the Constituency Chairman for Lower Manya Krobo, Emmanuel Nuertey Siakwa, acknowledged the involvement of one of their own in the NPP race but said that all analysis the constituency has conducted point to Dr. Bawumia as the only one, among the 10 aspirants, who can lead the NPP to victory.
“After our analysis, we have come to the realisation that it will be possible to break the 8 with Dr Bawumia. I’m not saying the other contestants are not intellectuals, but when you put everything and all the analysis together, it is possible to break the 8 with H.E. Dr Mahamudu,” said the Constituency Chairman.
“Lower Manya wants to be associated with this air, and all of us are here to support you.”
The Chairman also commended the Vice President and his wife for having a special relationship with the constituency.
“Your Excellency, you are never a stranger here, as my Secretary has said. You have been with us all these years. Even your wife has adopted this constituency and she has been supporting us.
“Look at the numbers. It shows we have been eager to receive you. We want to be associated with the air that is blowing; the air of breaking the 8.”
Upper Manya offers support
At neighbouring Upper Manya Constituency, the Constituency Chairman led enthusiastic party delegates who gathered in Asesewa to welcome the Vice President and offer their support.
Offering the Constituency’s support, Chairman Philip Mamphey also acknowledged the strong relationship Dr. Bawumia and his wife have kept with the constituency.
“Of all the aspirants, Dr. Bawumia is the only one who knows Upper Manya, more than any of them. Not only him, his wife, Samira Bawumia, is also a friend of this Constituency, who has been here quite a number of times to support us. Therefore, we see Dr. Bawumia as one of us, so Upper Manya is for him,” said the Chairman.
“Inshaa Allah, he will, on the 4th of November, become the Presidential Candidate of our party and go on and win the elections.”
Earlier in the day, Dr. Bawumia started the second day of his Eastern Regional tour in Asuogyaman, and like the rest, the Constituency offered the Vice President warm reception and welcome.
