The second senior police witness in the inquiry on the leaked audio recording about the ousting of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) also claims the tape is doctored.

Superintendent George Asare insists the “tape is incomplete” and his intel points to IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare as the one who masterminded the whole recording and leakage.

Supt. Asare appeared before the seven-member committee on Monday, September 4.

Asked whether he indeed had a conversation with former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu, he said: “I gave additional information to him which was not in the tape.

“[This is] just to make the point that the tape is doctored.”

He had earlier described the whole recording as “cut and paste”.

“Mr Chair, there is some cut and paste on the audio but that notwithstanding the voice in it is mine,” he told the committee.

This falls just in line with the same witness given by the Director General of Operations, George Alex Mensah, when he also appeared before the committee.

“Hon Chair, I identified some voices that resemble my voice but I cannot say specifically that these are my voices,” he stressed on Thursday, August 31.

They have both pointed accusing fingers at the IGP for the leakage.

For Supt. Asare, the two “boys” sent to go for the CVs from Chief Bugri Naabu to the IGP have expressed readiness to appear before the committee to witness.

Meanwhile, he has promised to reveal more to the committee about the workings of the current IGP in-camera.

“Granted that I will speak to this matter in-camera, I am more than prepared to do so.”
