Ghana youngster Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his delight after completing a season-long loan move to Leicester City in the English Championship.

The 19-year-old joined from Sporting CP and is expected to find his feet and eventually make his way into the first team of the Portuguese outfit at the end of the season.

The winger has been on the radar of several English clubs including Crystal Palace who got an initial bid of €8 million rejected as reported by Portuguese and English media.

However, the Foxes succeeded in capturing the youngster who said it was the best move for him.

“I’m so happy. This is an amazing moment for me, I’m happy to be here. For me, from looking at Leicester and how I felt about the coach, here is the best place for me,” said Issahaku.

“This was the best moment for me to join Leicester. I chose them because I think they can grow me and help me mature. [Enzo Maresca] told me about the plans he has for me and how he wants me to play – how he wants to help me in my football.”

The former Dreams FC player has been touted by many as one of the exciting youngsters to take the world by storm in the future given his exploits with the youth national teams.

He enjoyed international success in March 2021 when he helped Ghana’s Under-20 team to win the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he was named player of the tournament.

He swiftly earned a call-up into the Black Stars where he has already made 14 appearances including Africa Cup of Nations appearances while also making the final squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Issahaku was also an essential member of the Black Meteors team which played at the recent U-23 AFCON in Morocco scoring a goal each in the two-legged encounter against Algeria in the final round of qualifiers to give Ghana a 2-1 aggregate win.

However, he is hoping to gain momentum for Sporting CP where he has struggled to make a significant impact despite his exploits with Steadfast FC and Dreams FC in Ghana
